Drawing inspiration from the art of Gustav Klimt, including his iconic masterpiece, “The Kiss”, this elegant Art Nouveau wedding features a variety of DIY details and personal touches to truly make it a one-of-a-kind event.
How was your experience putting your personal stamp on your event?
From the bride:
I’m a designer, so I really enjoyed conceptualizing and planning my Klimt Art Nouveau wedding. Seeing it come to life was magical….
My brooch tiara was a special project. I wanted an art nouveau flower crown look, but couldn’t find anything I liked. I ended up finding some great enamel brooches at a thrift store, and soldered them together. I even added a turtle brooch because my husband had 3 turtles. Details like that make all the difference.
I also somehow managed to find my dream gown. I saw a photo of a gown that had been part of a collection a few years before, called the designer, and it turned out they had a sample in my size, at a price I could actually afford.
What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding?
During the cocktail hour, Ben and I escaped from the world and wandered along the grounds with the photographer. As we walked back, a friend started playing accordian, and we started dancing shoeless in the wet grass. It was a great first dance.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to other couples planning their own wedding?
DIY is great, but only if you have time, energy, and friends to pitch in. If you’re going to DIY flowers, order a pratice batch and look up how to make bouquets (oh, and figure out who will store and transport them). If you’re going to make gift bags, or fold napkins, you need people to help.
It goes by *so* quickly. Close your eyes a few times, and just appreciate the day.
