Today’s feature is this sweet and charming DIY vintage inspired wedding in Denver, Colorado, from Jessie Felix Photography.
From the bride:
Our wedding was a nice mix of traditional and eclectic, which tied together the Catholic heritage my groom and I share with our funkier, alternative, vintage aesthetic. It was important that this wedding highlighted the things that were unique and special to our relationship, like our shared religion, our love for music, our location in the awesome city of Denver, and my dad, who died when I was 14, but is still a huge presence in my life through his gorgeous artwork.
We were on a budget, so we prioritized…[…] we DIYed so much – we borrowed a ton of decor from friends and family, washed jar after jar after jar to collect all the vases for the centerpieces, bought a Costco cake, did our own calligraphy for invitations, only served wine + beer, but still had a formal rehearsal dinner on Friday and a farewell brunch on Sunday….
I bought a dress off the rack because it was the cheapest thing I liked that day, and I wasn’t about the drag out the process too long. I wanted to make a decision and move on! But the dress required a lot of alteration to really suit my vision. I essentially took the entire top half of the dress apart and rebuilt it to suit me. It was smooth and satin on top, and fully beaded on the bottom. To fill in some of the sexier gaps, we reused fabric from the former beaded top to create a bust accent as well as gorgeous wide beaded straps. It was lovely and truly a custom piece.
Florals become EVERYTHING to me during the wedding process. After my initial decision to DIY my flowers, I resolved to become an overnight florist. I took a floral arranging class, watched endless hours of YouTube tutorials, purchased flowers for a dry run of the production, practiced bouquet +boutonniere making, and collected nearly 150 clear glass jars for centerpieces + other decor (like the bathrooms. I love flowers in a bathroom!).
I ordered flowers from Sam’s Club + Costco, and had them delivered on Thursday before the wedding. I had a little flower party to process and prep them for Friday’s arranging. Friday, we spent almost 8 hours making 10 centerpieces, 5-6 additional decorations, 5 bouquets, 7 boutonnieres and 3 corsages. It was exhausting but I was SO PLEASED with the final result. It was a proud moment for me!
Everything turned out perfectly. It was the wedding of my dreams and I would relive it every single day if I could!
