Updated for 2020, some gorgeous Art Deco moonstone jewelry to ooh and ahh over. Moonstone is one of three June birthstones (the other two June birthstone pics, Pearl and Alexandrite already got their own posts). Moonstone was a favorite of the Art Nouveau and ’20s eras.
According to Hindu mythology, moonstone is made of solidified moonbeams. Many other cultures also associate this gem with moonlight, and it’s easy to see why. Its internal structure scatters the light that strikes it, creating a phenomenon known as adularescence. The visual effect is reminiscent of the full moon shining through a veil of thin, high clouds.
Legends say that moonstone brings good luck. Many believed that you could see the future if you held a moonstone in your mouth during a full moon. […] Great designers of the romantic Art Nouveau era, such as René Lalique and Louis Comfort Tiffany, featured the pale gem in custom jewelry.

Finally, this mixed metals moonstone ring from 1st Dibs is a stunner in its own way, with an odd sort of handmade look but also somehow streamline moderne-y with those lines and the mirrored look of the stone? I don’t know, I think it’s pretty and very cool…
So gorgeous. That piece really captures the otherworldly quality of moonstone. It’s just so unique, and in a setting like that, it is truly breathtaking.
